Winter Warmer Packs
In a campaign to raise awareness about the importance for older people of staying warm in winter, Care & Repair in Powys attended the Builth Wells Community Support Fair at the Wyeside. Members of staff were on hand all day, giving out advice and information regarding services offered by the independent agency.
But there was more than just information available – there was also a free prize draw on the day, where visitors could win a special Winter Warmer pack containing items to keep older people warm over winter, including woolly gloves, a hat, a thermos flask, and more.
Care & Repair in Powys continues to work in Builth Wells and the whole of Powys to make sure any homeowner or private sector tenant over sixty is able to feel warm, safe and secure in their homes, providing a great deal of home adaptations to ensure there are no slips, trips or falls in the chilly weather.
Electric Blanket Testing
Care & Repair in Powys also joined with Mid and West Wales Fire Service to welcome older people to a series of special ‘Safe and Warm’ information days during the autumn, with free electric blanket testing.
There were drop-in mornings across Powys, mostly at local fire stations. Help and advice was available on issues from making adaptations to homes for changing physical needs, to security against break-ins and fires.
People were encouraged to bring along their electric blankets to have them professionally tested by the Fire Service and any that failed the safety check were replaced free of charge.
