Walker’s Meadow, Presteigne

Mid-Wales Housing Association is pleased that work is nearing completion on the first phase of its Walkers Meadow development of affordable new homes at Knighton Road, Presteigne

The scheme will comprise a total of 28 homes and is being developed in two phases. The first phase programmed for completion in September 2016 consists of 11 homes with six two-bedroom houses, one four-bedroom house and four one- bedroom flats. Plans for phase two are still to be finalised and submitted for planning permission. The size and type of homes for phase two will reflect the local housing need at the time this phase of the development is progressed.

The main contractor for this scheme is J. Harper & Sons (Leominster) Ltd. with the construction contract being managed by the Association’s project manager, Strongs Partnership Ltd. from Cardiff.

The first phase of the development will cost in the region of £1.3 million and will be part-funded by £757,000 of Welsh Government Social Housing and Smaller Homes Grant with the remainder funded by Mid-Wales Housing Association.

The properties are being built to a high standard and comply with the Welsh Government’s Development Quality Requirements, Life Time Homes and Secured by Design Standards and achieve Code for Sustainable Homes level 3.

Mid-Wales Housing is pleased to have adopted a new approach to allocating these properties. After making sure that the issue of housing need is addressed in the first instance, the properties will be allocated on the basis of the applicants living, working or carrying out voluntary work in the Presteigne and Norton Town Council area. The aim behind this is to benefit applicants who are part of, and contributing to, the local community.
